What you will build
- A clean Jira Software Cloud site using best-practice settings
- Issue hierarchy with epics, stories, tasks, bugs, and clear acceptance criteria
- Working Scrum or Kanban boards with WIP limits and quick filters
- Sprint cadence with estimation, capacity, and velocity
- Dashboards for stakeholders: burndown, velocity, cumulative flow, sprint reports
- Useful automation rules for intake, triage, and handoffs
- A capstone: plan and deliver a two-week sprint with demo, retro, and executive memo
The 8-week journey at a glance
- Week 1.
Agile foundations and Jira setup
Scrum vs Kanban, roles, ceremonies, Definition of Done. Create a Jira Software Cloud site. Team-managed vs company-managed projects. Roles and permissions. - Week 2.
Backlog and estimation
Epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, points vs time, planning poker. Build a living backlog with priorities and dependencies. - Week 3.
Workflows and configuration Statuses, transitions, conditions, validators, post-functions. Screens and custom fields. Reusable schemes and templates. - Week 4.
Sprint planning and execution
Create sprints, capacity planning, velocity, WIP control, swimlanes, subtasks, daily stand-ups, working agreements. - Week 5.
Reporting and stakeholder comms Burndown, velocity, sprint and release reports, cumulative flow for Kanban. Build stakeholder dashboards and a simple risk and issue log. - Week 6.
Integrations and light automation
Confluence for requirements, GitHub or Bitbucket links, email to issue, forms. No-code automation for triage, routing, and reminders. - Week 7.
Governance and scale Roles and permissions, components, versions, releases, basic roadmaps, cross-project views, managing dependencies, simple PI planning. - Week 8. Capstone sprint Run Sprint 2 end-to-end. Deliver demo, retrospective, stakeholder memo, and a short video walkthrough of your Jira setup.
